Cnidari di forma polipoide, prevalentemente coloniali. 
E’ rappresentato Corallium rubrum, in cui è evidente un asse compatto di spicole calcaree rosse fuse e/o di materiale proteico corneo, che funge da sostegno ai singoli polipi, dotati di otto tentacoli pennatulati e di otto setti mesenterici; le cavità gastrovascolari comunicano tra loro mediante un sistema di tubi gastrodermici, denominati solenia.
