Collaborò con Charles Babbage alla Macchina Analitica, anticipando il funzionamento dei computer moderni. Scrisse il primo algoritmo destinato a essere elaborato da una macchina, diventando la prima programmatrice della storia. Intuì che i computer potessero andare oltre i semplici calcoli.\n\nNel 1979 il linguaggio di programmazione ADA fu intitolato in suo onore.
