Questo Estratto, relativo all&#39;edizione romana, fa riferimento ai diari di Fanny Elliot, sposa di John Russell, Primo Ministro inglese dal 1846.
I contenuti fanno riferimento al volume &quot;Lady John Russell: a memoir. With selections from her diaries and correspondence&quot; pubblicato a Londra nel 1910. 
La donna, intercedendo presso il marito, ebbe un ruolo fondamentale, secondo il racconto di Giacomo Lacaita, senatore del Regno d&#39;Italia, nell&#39;impedire che l&#39;Inghilterra ostacolasse lo sbarco di Garibaldi sul continente, quindi contribuendo inconsapevolmente al buon esito dell&#39;Unità d&#39;Italia.
